Corporate Secretary Peter Comfort manages corporate contracts, stock transactions, and all other legal documentation for the agency. He’s a third-generation insurance professional. following in the footsteps of his grandfather and uncle. Peter began his career at his uncle’s firm, Comfort and Fleming, soon after graduating from college, and joined Propel (formerly Bratrud Middleton) in 1988 when Comfort and Fleming was acquired.
In addition to serving as Corporate Secretary, Peter manages Propel’s construction practice. He has more than 22 years of construction experience, and his colleagues throughout Propel have a similar depth of knowledge in the industries they serve. This expertise gives clients a distinct advantage, Peter says.
“Our ability to understand our clients’ business on a deeper level comes from the fact we’ve ‘been there’. Each of us has a long history in the industries we work in — whether it’s construction, banking, recreation, senior living, or education. So we understand the challenges and we know what to think about, in terms of what may be ahead. It’s a well-rounded, knowledgeable perspective that we believe gives clients an edge.”
ON STRENGTH IN NUMBERS
“We are more successful for our clients — and ourselves — because we work as a team,” explains Peter. “Anything that happens with my clients, of course, I’m ultimately responsible for, but there are lots of people around me who are experts in other areas, and I never hesitate to seek their input... Working together gets the best out of all our people, and in turn, the client gets a better value. And clients know they can always get hold of someone who knows their business.”
ON THE BENEFIT OF EXPERIENCED CLAIMS SPECIALISTS
“Our claims department provides an excellent service,” Peter says. “They’re there to help clients navigate the process from the beginning. Most agencies simply don’t have the resources to provide that level of attention. They just file the claim and forward it to the carrier, then it’s between the client and the carrier. We’ve made claims service a priority, so we’re able to be there for the client at every point. It makes a difficult situation a little less overwhelming.’
PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS
Peter is a member of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and the Construction Finance Managers Association (CFMA).
A FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER
When he’s not helping guide the agency, Peter and his wife Pam enjoy watching their four kids play sports, squeezing in a golf game when he can, and catching live music with the family. But Peter’s not just a spectator — and the entire Propel office can attest to that. He once sang Rod Stewart songs at a company party, complete with blond wig and blow up guitar.
