Propel Insurance Announces: Melody Olson to Lead National Real Estate and Construction Practice and Max Hanley as Regional Director for Washington & Alaska

TACOMA, WA – October 1 – Propel Insurance, an Alera Group company, has appointed Melody Olson as National Practice Leader for Real Estate and Construction. Olson brings over 20 years of experience, a sharp strategic lens, deep industry knowledge, and a relentless focus on client outcomes.

This move is part of Propel’s broader vision to bolster its focus on specialized, vertical-based insurance practices. Earlier this year, Propel named Jevyn Backman and John Sims as National Practice Leaders of their Senior Care Practice and Corrie Craig as National Practice Leader of their Personal Lines Practice. This strategic approach to verticals empowers the Propel team to better anticipate risks, tailor coverage, and deliver insights that drive superior outcomes.

“Specialized focus is how we help our clients stay ahead in a competitive, fast-moving environment,” explains Chris Hayes, Managing Director. “Melody is not just an expert in insurance – she understands industry trends, opportunities and exposures, and will best position our clients as we invest in even stronger support for these verticals.”

Max Hanley has been named as the Regional Director for Washington and Alaska, succeeding Olson. Hanley has long been a force in the construction space. He brings deep technical insight, expertise in navigating the insurance marketplace, and a proven ability to build lasting industry relationships. His transition ensures continuity and strengthens Propel’s regional leadership.

“At the heart of our strategy is a simple but powerful idea: when we deeply understand our clients’ businesses, and we truly get under the hood of their business, we can deliver solutions that don’t just meet expectations but create competitive advantage,” says Kurt Carlson, Operating Partner.

Hayes concludes, “This announcement is about more than just a leadership change. It’s a strong signal that we’re serious about being the nation’s real estate and construction insurance partner of choice, and we’re investing in the people and best practices that will bring value to these industries. With leaders like Max and Melody at the helm, Propel is poised to redefine excellence in real estate and construction insurance.”
